Condition assessment work can often lead to recommendations to replace transformers because the assessment suggests that end of life is near, when in actual fact the transformer may well have some life remaining. The operator needs to be aware of the risks and consequences of an in service failure, but experience shows that often a further 3 or 4 years service may be possible.
